Not too long ago, I was in the market for one of timbuk2.com's fine bike messenger bags. Eventually, I was put off by their singular delivery option for Europe which comes to about the same price as express international delivery, but includes VAT. By including tax, the remaining money only gets you regular slow delivery which takes about a month. Anywhere else in the world, and you'd have your bag in about 3-4 days. I was going to wait till I got home to order one, but it seems I will be doing some minor traveling in the next few weeks (actually one of those stretches might be over a week long) and needed to get one NOW. Of course, whether it's possible to pack a week's worth of stuff into a messenger bag is something I will have to figure out later. Looked on eBay last night. In the end, I gave in to Crumpler. Sigh. Everyone has a damned Crumpler bag. Everyone who's spoilt and full of themselves. My new Fux Deluxe, hopefully on the way.

how true! you can't help but associate crumplers with schmucks who are so full of themselves. my brother has a small one that i do borrow and use on occasion at the cost of feeling guilty every 5 minutes.

a little too late for a recommendation...BUT..there's another brand of messenger bags called BBC (i think its supposed to be short for the big bag company).they are super simple and plain in design, really excellent quality and a little cheaper than crumplers. couldn't find any online sites but i know u can get em back here at peninsular plaza at the spitfire skateboard shop.

Have to agree about the Crumpler observation, but they're really great bags! Without my Ben's Pizza, my camera would probably have been subjected to scratches, gotten water-logged etc. It's the only protection against my klutziness.

kim doesn't agree that crumpler carries that connotation. i just thought i should mention the opposition vote.

i do think they are great bags now (i still want to buy the brown/yellow timbuk2 at some point though), and when i said those things about crumpler, i wasn't being negative. we all complain about the hipster quotient of brands, but i'm happy to buy into it. i like crumpler. i like apple. i like adidas.

jon: thanks for the tip. don't think i've heard of them, but i quite like australia's STM (standard technical media) bags for laptops. i've got one for my xiao dingdang (iBook) and it's well made.

ci'en: ben's pizza is such a cool name for a bag!
